CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police continue to investigate a shooting that sent one person to the hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound Tuesday morning.

Carbondale Police say they responded to the scene in the 400 block of North Beadle Drive at 7:45 a.m. They found the victim suffering from the gunshot wound and began life saving medical care with Jackson County paramedics. The victim was taken by ambulance for continued treatment. When police released this information Tuesday, the victim was in critical condition.

Officers found the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Evetta Hughes of Carbondale, at the scene. The victim and Hughes are married. The investigation revealed it was an isolated domestic incident between the couple. 

Detectives charged Hughes with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Aggravated Domestic Battery.
