ENFIELD – An Enfield man was arrested for Aggravated Domestic Battery – a Class 2 felony – and Unlawful Restraint following a report of a domestic in progress on North First Street in Enfield around 9 Tuesday night.

According to the White County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene after a caller said the suspect, Derek E. Austin, and the victim, Kerri L. Austin of Enfield, were fighting and it had gotten physical.

One deputy walked behind the first home and saw Derek Austin standing on the front porch. The deputy also saw Kerri Austin standing behind the home. She was seen to be extremely upset on her phone. Kerri Austin told the deputy she and Derek had been arguing for most of the day which then escalated into a physical issue. She said she threw a chair down and other things. Kerri Austin also said Derek grabbed her by her neck and forcefully put her on the ground and would not leave her. He then wrestled the phone away from her to keep her from calling 911. Kerri said at some point they were able to split ways. The deputy looked at Kerri’s neck for injuries and saw some redness on her neck. Kerri told the deputy she did not need any medical attention.

Deputies then spoke with Derek Austin about what happened. Derek said he had put his hands around Kerri’s neck and placed her forcefully on the floor to keep her from throwing objects around the house. Deputies told Derek he was under arrest for Domestic Battery. He was taken to the White County Jail with no bond set.
