CARMI – White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss along with Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter, Norris City Police Chief Dustin Dale, Grayville Police Chief Bobby Hatcher and Enfield Police Chief Mark Wheeler want everyone to have a good time while enjoying all White County has to offer on the weekend leading up to the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8.

Sheriff Weiss says there are different social media pages you can go to for information along with different apps you can sign up for. You can find the White County Sheriff’s Office, Norris City Police Department, Carmi Police Department and Grayville Police Department on Facebook. The White County Sheriff’s App can be found on the App Store for Apple devices or on Google Play for Android devices. The Carmi Police Department also issues alerts for the City of Carmi on Nixle.com.

The sheriff says the weekend of the eclipse, White County is expected to see a very large influx of people from all over and wants everyone to travel safely while within the county and be respectful. This influx will bring a lot of challenges, not only for the citizens of White County but also for emergency services. There will be more traffic than normal. This influx may make response times slower. Please do not call 911 for traffic jams, traffic lights taking too long and other instances that would not require immediate response. 911 should be used for emergency purposes only. If instances comes about, that otherwise would not require an immediate response, please call the White County Sheriffs line at 618-382-5321 or the Carmi Police Department line at 618-382-4633.

If you are traveling from out of town, please have items in your car such as extra food and water if you get lost or stranded. Blankets and extra clothes for the weather. A flashlight and emergency medical kit. Please make sure that before you leave you have enough fuel in your vehicle to get you home and a charger for your cell phone to insure you have a full battery.
