JONESBORO – A man wanted on a felony warrant in Missouri was caught after leading law enforcement on a car chase in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the Cape Girardeau, Missouri City Police Department attempted to apprehend David P. Rains of Chaffee, Missouri on a felony warrant at 2 p.m.

Rains fled the scene driving a white Hyundai SUV, crossing the Mississippi River Bridge into Illinois. Rains then continued into Alexander County across Grapevine Trail, northbound on State Highway 127 into Union County when the sheriff’s office began to actively pursue. Rains deliberately crashed into a Union County squad car, disabling his vehicle, and was ultimately apprehended by law enforcement on North Acre Lane in Jonesboro. Rains was then taken to the hospital for clearance, booked, and taken to Jackson County Jail.

Rains remains in custody and is being held on a no-bond felony warrant from Missouri for Burglary 1st Degree, Domestic Assault 2nd Degree, and Property Damage 2nd Degree in addition to the new charges in Illinois which will include but are not limited to Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Criminal Damage to State Supported Property, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, and numerous traffic offenses.

The Cape Girardeau City Police Department, Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshal Service, Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the Jonesboro Police Department were all involved in this incident.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says the incident remains an active investigation.
