MT. VERNON – A Jefferson County judge approved a 31-year-old Mt. Vernon man’s request Wednesday to represent himself in court on a Class X felony meth delivery charge.

Kegan Graham was arrested in October as part of a Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department joint investigation.

When law enforcement served a search warrant on a home in the 500 block of South 22nd, they reportedly located a large quantity of methamphetamine, cannabis, controlled substances, currency, and drug equipment.

Graham was ultimately arrested and charged in Jefferson County Court with Class X  aggravated delivery of between 100 and 400 grams of methamphetamine.

During Wednesday’s pre-trial hearing in Jefferson County Court, the defendant voiced his desire to represent himself in the case.

After admonishing Graham of the dangers of representing himself, Judge Jerry Crisel granted his motion and Public Defender Matt Vaughn was relieved of that post.

Also on Wednesday, a prosecution motion demanding a “source of bail hearing” which would require the defendant to show a legitimate source of funds for potential cash bail was granted without objection.

The case is now scheduled for a March 29 pre-trial hearing.
