CARBONDALE – You can bundle up and raise cold, hard cash to support those experiencing homelessness, hurt, and hunger in southern Illinois by attending the “Coldest Night of the Year” fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 25 in Carbondale.

The Carbondale Warming Center is hosting the fundraiser.

Carmalita Cahill, Executive Director of the Carbondale Warming Center says this event has been going on for about 12 years now in Canada and two years in the United States. Cahill says Carbondale is the first city in Illinois to hold this fundraiser.

The walk will begin and end at Grand Avenue Christian Church, located at 1305 E. Grand Ave. in Carbondale.

The goal is to raise $20,000. Cahill says about 38 percent of that goal has so far been raised.
