MARION – A woman was cited for domestic battery and other offenses following her arrest recently by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, around 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, deputies responded to the scene of a domestic battery involving Olivia G. Lopez and another female.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Lopez had battered a domestic partner in the Road Ranger parking lot at the intersection of Illinois 148 and I-57 south of Marion. Lopez had already left the scene before deputies arrived.

Then at 11:07 p.m., deputies were told that Marion Police officers were speaking with Lopez at the Econo Lodge in Marion about a separate incident. Deputies arrived on scene and told Lopez that she was under arrest for domestic battery and attempted to take her into custody.

Lopez became irate and attempted to pull her arms from behind her torso. Deputies gained control of her wrists and she was handcuffed behind her torso.

While attempting to secure Lopez in the rear passenger seat of a patrol vehicle, she dug her feet into the ground and attempted to pull away. Deputies again gained control of Lopez and attempted to secure her in the rear seat of the patrol car. While doing so, Lopez laid backwards into the seat and kicked, striking a deputy twice in the upper torso. Lopez’s feet were pushed into the patrol vehicle and the vehicle’s door was shut. Lopez then began kicking the window of the patrol vehicle with both feet. Deputies, assisted by Marion officers, restrained Lopez without further incident.

Lopez was cited for Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, and Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer. She was taken to and remanded into the custody of the Williamson County Jail.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Marion Police Department and Williamson County State’s Attorney Ted Hampson for their assistance in this matter.
