VIENNA – The Johnson County State’s Attorney’s office is warning drivers that passing a stopped school bus can result in a 90-day suspension of driving privileges upon conviction and the offense is not eligible for court supervision.

Several tickets have recently been issued to drivers, especially along the newly widened section of Illinois 146 in Vienna, where a turn lane was added near the new asphalt plant.

Officials remind motorists that even though the road now has three lanes, it is still illegal to pass a stopped school bus with its stop sign arm extended and red lights flashing. Improved security cameras on buses have also increased the chances of violators being identified and charged.

Drivers are urged to stay alert and cautious, as children’s safety remains the top priority.
