METROPOLIS – The following information was released by the Metropolis Police Department on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023.

Aug. 21, 2023
A Metropolis officer stopped a grey GMC on US 45 and 12th St. A computer check revealed that the registration was suspended for a mandatory insurance violation. The driver, Jonathan J. Blankney, 30, of St. Louis, MO could not provide proof of insurance. A computer check revealed that his driver’s license was suspended as well. Blankney was charged with driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle with suspended registration. He was released on bond.

Aug. 23, 2023
Metropolis Police were called to investigate a domestic disturbance. Upon speaking with the victim, a Metropolis sergeant observed injuries to her neck and a laceration on her leg. The victim stated that she had been struck, choked and had her hair pulled by Ronald Shane Burton, 51, of Metropolis. Officers went to the residence with the victim in the 300 block of W. 8th St. While searching the residence, officers located Burton hiding in a corner covered up with a cardboard box. Burton refused multiple commands and when taken into custody, resisted efforts to be handcuffed. Burton was arrested and charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest. Burton was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
