METROPOLIS – The following information was released by the Metropolis Police Department on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023
Aug. 13, 2023
A Metropolis officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a blue Suzuki dirt bike while on E. 8th St. The officer recognized the driver to be Larry J. Meyers, 47, of Metropolis. The officer was aware that Meyers was wanted on two felony warrants. The warrants were for FTA-Possession of Methamphetamine and Aggravated Battery. Meyers refused to pull over and a pursuit was started. Meyers only made it a few blocks before losing control and dumping the bike. He then fled on foot and a short foot chase ensued. An ambulance was called to have Meyers checked out and he was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital. While at the hospital, Meyers was found to have a clear plastic baggie hidden in his sock containing Methamphetamine. Meyers was released from the hospital and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Meyers was charged with the two warrants, Attempting to Flee/Elude Police, Driving while License Suspended, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and other traffic offenses.
While on patrol, a Metropolis sergeant observed a person he recognized as Ronald S. Burton, 51, of Metropolis in the 300 block of W. 8th St. The sergeant was aware that Burton was wanted on a warrant. The Sergeant attempted to take him into custody and he resisted arrest. The Sergeant sustained a minor injury to his elbow during the scuffle. Burton was charged with the warrant and Resisting Arrest. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Aug. 14, 2023
Metropolis officers were called to a residence on Hospital Drive for a disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers located the victim who had a bloody nose and other minor injuries. Offices learned that Tayler A Stewart, 32, of Metropolis had struck her and tried to steal her car. Stewart was in violation of an order of protection which prohibited him from being at the residence. Stewart was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery and Violation of the Order of Protection. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis officer stopped a black KIA for speeding 48 mph in a posted 30 mph Zone of 12th St. While speaking with the driver, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and observed other signs of intoxication. She failed the field sobriety tests. Amy L Walker, 42, of Metropolis was placed under arrest for DUI. A search of the vehicle revealed a baggie containing Psilocybin Mushrooms a controlled substance as well as an open bottle of Vodka. Walker was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Speeding. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Police arrested James W. Summers, 45, of Metropolis in the 1900 block of Ferry. Summers was wanted on warrants. The warrants were issued by Massac County for Aggravated Battery and Resisting Arrest. Summers was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Aug. 19, 2023
A Metropolis officer pulled behind a Massac County deputy who just initiated a traffic stop on US 45 near Devers Rd. The officer then observed a White Jeep approaching them from behind. The Jeep failed to yield to the stationary emergency vehicles and did not move over to the next lane or slow down. The Metropolis officer conducted a traffic stop for the “Scott’s Law” violation. A computer check on the driver, Ron T. Rouse, 53, of Paducah, KY revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. Rouse was charged with Driving while License Suspended and Failure to Yield to Stationary Emergency Vehicles. He was released on bond.
