METROPOLIS – The following information was released by the Metropolis Police Department on Monday, July 31, 2023.
July 17, 2023
At approximately 6:04 p.m, Officers received 911 calls of a subject inside the Last Stop Tavern with a gun threatening to shoot people. Officers arrived right away. Officers learned that John M. Johnston, 69, of Metropolis had been involved in an altercation with another patron. Johnston left and returned armed with the pistol. Johnston put the pistol to the victims head. The victim swatted it away and other patrons intervened and disarmed Johnston. Officers recovered a .32 caliber pistol from one of the witnesses. Johnston was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault and Disorderly Conduct. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
July 22, 2023
Rachel A. Bowman, 32, of Metropolis was arrested in the 900 block of Metropolis St. Bowman was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Driving a vehicle with suspended registration. Bowman was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
July 23, 2023
Jordan L. Jackson, 31, of Metropolis was arrested in the 900 block of E. 9th St. Jackson had warrants. The first was a failure to appear in court warrant issued by Massac County for Illegal Possession of a Debit/Credit Card. The other was a parole violation warrant issued by McCracken County, KY. Jackson was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
July 24, 2023
Massac County Housing Authority called to report that they observed Shane M. Vinson, 20, of Metropolis enter a unit at Spence Apartments. Vinson has been trespassed for housing property. Upon arrival, witnesses advised that Vinson ran out the back door towards Sonic. The female that he was visiting had also left in a white PT Cruiser. Officers located the vehicle with both inside parked at Sonic. Upon blocking the PT Cruiser with a marked police vehicle, Vinson exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Vinson was captured and taken into custody. Vinson was charged with Criminal Trespass to State Supported Property and Resisting Arrest. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the 1900 block of Market St. The caller stated that Brentyn J. Brown, 20, of Metropolis was there in violation of an order of protection. Upon arrival, a Metropolis sergeant observed Brown at the residence as well as the protected party. Brown was arrested and charged with the violation of an order of protection. Brown was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
July 28, 2023
Metropolis officers were called to the Dollar General on E. 8th St., for a theft. Upon arrival, officers were informed by employees that they suspected a person later identified as Joshua L. Tabor, 34, of Metropolis had taken a portable fan without paying for it. Tabor initially denied the theft, however, officers located the fan hidden by where Tabor was standing. Tabor admitted to the theft. Management wanted to sign a complaint. Tabor was arrested and charged with Retail Theft. Tabor was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Jason E. Waggoner, 47, no know address, was arrested in the 300 block of Scott St. Waggoner was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by McCracken County for parole violation. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
