Kentucky Man Killed in I-57 Crash in Williamson County

(WQRL) – A 56-year-old Kevil, Kentucky man was killed in an early Tuesday morning crash on northbound I-57 in Williamson County.

According to Illinois State Police, around 5:10 a.m., 41-year-old David R. Vaughn of Fairfield was driving north on I-57 at milepost 52 when a deer ran onto the roadway. Vaughn swerved to avoid the deer and drifted off the pavement. He overcorrected and lost control of the semi. The semi rolled onto the passenger side and came to rest in the center median and across the traffic lanes of I-57 northbound.

The Kevil man was driving a blue Peterbilt truck north on I-57 at milepost 52. Due to the darkness at the time of the crash, the man did not see the semi in time to avoid contact. His truck struck the underside of the semi-trailer. He was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. His name is not being released until family members are notified. Vaughn was not hurt.

All lanes reopened at 11 a.m.
