MCLEANSBORO – Local Relay For Life teams and community members gathered at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Hamilton and Wayne County event on June 4th at Hamilton County Courthouse Lawn in McLeansboro to Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back against cancer.
More than $42,667 was raised to support the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives from cancer, surpassing this year’s fundraising goal of $35,000. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.
“It was inspirational to see people from all parts of our community come out to support us and help save lives from cancer,” said Janice Crow, Relay For Life Event Lead. “Together, we celebrated those surviving cancer, remembered loved ones lost, and took tangible action to make a difference.”
The following teams and individuals were recognized for their extraordinary efforts: Top Fundraiser is currently Tina Mayberry with over $5,184 raised individually and Top Fundraising Team Award is currently Friends For Life with over $8,636 raised. Special Team Awards were awarded the night of the event which are: Incredible Edible Award to Friends For Life; Team Spirit Award to Team Reyling; Best On-Site Fundraiser to Team Reyling; Best Decorated Campsite to Fighting For Allie; Rookie Team of the Year Award to Fighting For Allie; Best Team T-Shirt to Sisters Family and Friends.
The 2022 Relay For Life of Hamilton and Wayne County Kathy Smith Volunteer of the Year Award was also presented during the night of the event announcing Janice Crow as the 2022 recipient for her dedication to Relay For Life and the mission of the American Cancer Society.
