Toddler Killed, Two Injured in Wayne County Crash

WAYNE COUNTY – A toddler died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Wayne County Thursday afternoon.

According to Illinois State Police, around 1:30 p.m. a silver Dodge Charger driven by 24-year-old Porscha M. Schultz of Fairfield and a 2015 white Kenworth Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer combination driven by 29-year-old Jordan M. Ambrous of Carmi were both traveling east on Illinois 15 just west of County Road 2450 East in Wayne County.

Schultz had pulled over on the westbound shoulder at a mailbox. When Schultz pulled back onto the roadway, her car was struck in the rear by the semi.

Schultz and her passenger in the front seat, 24-year-old Alissa J. Crum of Altamont, were both flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries. A one-year-old boy from Fairfield, who was riding in the back seat, was pronounced dead on scene by the Wayne County Coroner. Ambrous reported no injuries. Ambrous was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. 

The roadway was closed during the crash investigation for six hours and was opened at approximately 7:10 p.m.
