SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois House of Representatives Friday adopted a House Joint Resolution which honors those who died, were wounded, and served in the Korean War.

HJR88 designates the section of Interstate 57 which runs through the City of Benton as the “38th Parallel Korean Veteran Highway.”

The resolution states that Franklin County shares a unique latitudinal line, the 38th parallel, with the historical boundary between North and South Korea.

Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha), a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard and the Republican spokesman on the House Veteran’s Affairs committee, presented the resolution on the House floor.

State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) was a chief co-sponsor of the resolution.
