New Illinois State Budget Passes Saturday Morning

(IOCI RADIO) – Illinois lawmakers passed a new state budget early Saturday morning, totaling over $45 billion and paving the way for the new fiscal year beginning July 1.

The budget includes increased funding for education, college MAP grants, 300 additional state troopers, mental health services and money to “put away for a rainy day.” House Majority Leader Greg Harris summed it up:

Democrats who put the budget together said it reflects an improving Illinois economy and recovery from the pandemic. Republicans were critical, saying it “doesn’t do enough” to help taxpayers or fight crime.
