Benton Police Chief Andrews Resigns

BENTON – The Benton City Council Monday night accepted Police Chief Mike Andrews’ resignation.

According to City Clerk Brook Craig, Andrews submitted a resignation letter to her office on Thursday, March 24 stating that he would be retiring effective March 27. Andrews stated that he had given “considerable thought to this significant decision over the past year but felt that this was the right time to retire.”

“I am proud to have achieved so much with such fine and respectable peers these past 26 years,” Andrews said. “I sincerely appreciate the City of Benton’s support during my long tenure. Because of our shared accomplishments, I will always consider myself as part of the department. I wish all my colleagues the best, and am certain that Benton Police Department will continue to be successful.”

Andrews was initially hired in December 1995. This was his second stint as Police Chief serving this time from 2019 until Sunday.

After accepting Andrews’ resignation, the Council named Chris Funkhouser as Acting/Interim Police Chief until further notice.

Craig said an actual date has not been set as to when a new chief will be named.
