MT. VERON – Bond has been set at $500,000 for a 25-year-old Mt. Vernon man arrested over the weekend in connection with a September 2021 shooting incident in Centralia.
Mack Herron was in the Jefferson County Jail on another case when he released on the outstanding warrant in Marion County on charge of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm.
According to Centralia police, Herron is accused of firing shots in September 2021 from a blue Chrysler 200 near the intersection of Lincoln and Howard, before fleeing the scene.
Mitchell, of Centralia told police he was walking northbound on Lincoln Street and crossing the parking lot of the Marion County Housing Authority when shots were fired from a passing blue Chrysler 200.
Police report a total of eight shots were fired in the incident with two shots striking Mitchell who was first taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hosptial in Centralia before being transferred to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.
Mitchell reportedly told police he didn’t know who shot him or why; however, video survellance from the Marion County Housing Authority helped police identify the vehicle and ultimately led to Herron as a suspect.
