(IOCI RADIO) – The Illinois Senate is voting to end hair discrimination in the workplace.
A 2019 study by soap maker Dove found that 80% of Black women felt they needed to change their hairstyle to meet more conservatives standards and fit in at work.
“That’s not right,” Chicago Sen. Mattie Hunter said, who just passed legislation that ensures employees can be creative and expressive with their hair.
The bill now moves to the House for a vote. Last year, lawmakers passed a similar measure that applies to school dress codes.
