Illinois Higher Education Goes Test-Optional

(The Center Square) – Illinois public colleges and universities have dropped the required college board tests.

Bob Schaeffer, executive director at FairTests.org, said tests give an unfair advantage to kids who take test prep classes.

The Varsity Blues college admissions scandal in 2019 demonstrated how these tests can be exploited, Schaeffer said.

The Illinois Legislature passed the Higher Education Fair Admissions Act eliminating required tests last fall.

Shaeffers believes that the tests are not an accurate representation of a student’s academic ability.

Schaeffer said 80% of U.S. colleges are now test-optional.
