Carbondale Man Charged in Vehicle Theft, Chase

CARBONDALE – A Carbondale man has been arrested and charged after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading Carbondale Police on a chase Monday afternoon.

According to Carbondale Police, officers responded to the 900 block of West Main Street around 2:30 p.m. regarding a stolen vehicle occupied by a suspect.  

When officers arrived, the suspect drove over a curb and fled in the vehicle north on North Oakland Avenue.  The suspect vehicle crashed near the intersection of North Oakland Avenue and West Willow Street, damaging property in the process. The suspect fled on foot and was quickly apprehended by officers.  

Officers charged the suspect, 23-year-old Andrew L. Walker Jr. of Carbondale, with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Possession of Controlled Substance and outstanding warrants from Jackson County and Union County.

Walker was treated at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for minor injuries related to the crash. He was then released from the hospital and lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
