Multiple Road/Lane Closures to Take Place Across Region

Multiple lane and road closures will occur in the coming weeks across southern Illinois.

The following projects will take place according to the Illinois Department of Transportation:

  • Friday night at 6, Illinois 37 just south of the Johnson County line near Goines Lane in Pulaski County will be closed, weather permitting, so a large drainage pipe can be replaced. The road is expected to be back open by 6 Monday morning.
  • Monday, September 13: a lane closure on the bridge carrying northbound I-57 over eastbound I-64 in Jefferson County starting Monday, Sept. 13 so repairs can be made. The closure will run from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. will extend to Tuesday, Sept. 14. Messages board and signs will be in place to remind you about the closure.
  • Lane closures will start Wednesday, weather permitting, on Illinois 37 in Williamson County so repairs can be made to the bridge deck on the bridge carrying Illinois 37 over Crab Orchard Creek. Work will start at 7 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by signals. There will be a 15’ width restriction.
  • Lane reductions will begin Monday, weather permitting, on Illinois 13 west of Harrisburg for road construction. Work will begin to convert the Illinois 13/Carrier Mills Road intersection west of Harrisburg into a restricted crossing U-turn intersection, adding a turn lane and resurfacing of the eastbound and westbound lanes of Illinois 13 from the Williamson County line to West Poplar Street in Harrisburg. Work includes earthwork, pavement patching, asphalt surface removal, asphalt paving and pavement markings. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and controlled by flaggers.

To avoid delays, officials seek other routes and use caution through the work zones. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zones as quickly as possible.
