CARMI – The White County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fraud case involving unemployment benefits.
According to a sheriff’s office report, a Norris City woman informed the sheriff’s office that she received information from the Unemployment Security office stating she had applied for unemployment benefits.
The woman noted she received two letters from the unemployment office dated March 3.
The woman stated that the letters said she had applied for unemployment benefits and that more information was needed from her, adding she had never applied for or give any person permission to apply for any benefits from the unemployment office.
Additionally, she said she called the unemployment office to report the fraudulent activity in her name. The unemployment office told her to contact the local sheriff’s office to report the incident. She did not give any personal information to any person.
