SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza said the resignation of a recently appointed house representative, Edward Guerra Kodatt, clearly illustrates the need for her proposed “no exit bonus” bill.
“The problem is that under current state law…legislators earn a full month’s salary, even if they only serve one day in office,” Mendoza said.
Mendoza added her “no exit bonus” legislation will end the practice, and instead pro-rate a resigning lawmaker’s wages based on the days they served.
Kodatt was appointed to replace former House Speaker Mike Madigan but was urged to resign over “alleged questionable conduct.”
