Employee Found Dead at Marion Wastewater Plant Indentified

MARION – The City of Marion Monday afternoon released the name of the employee who was found dead in one of the treated water storage clarifiers Sunday morning at the city’s Wastewater Treatment Facility on South Van Buren Street.

According to city spokesperson Cody Moake, a co-worker became aware of Chief Wastewater Plant Operator David Williams’ disappearance and immediately called emergency crews to begin a thorough search of the property at 7 a.m. Recovery crews located and retrieved the Williams’ body from the clarifier at 10 a.m.

The Illinois State Police and the Williamson County Coroner’s office are conducting the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Williams’ death.

“Williams was more than just a dedicated employee, and his legacy will continue to be honored through the brotherhood and sisterhood of his co-workers and the enormous impact he had on his community through his Second Baptist Church family,” Moake said. ” Williams was the ultimate example of a family man. He dedicated his life to caring for his family, his work family, and building a legacy that will never be forgotten. The City of Marion mourns his tragic loss alongside his family and his co-workers.”
