Four Deaths Due to COVID-19 Reported in Region Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD – Officials with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 3,751 new COVID-19 cases, including 81 additional deaths Wednesday. Health departments throughout southern Illinois reported 166 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,112,181 cases, including 18,964 deaths.

Local case breakdown:

  • Jefferson County: 50 (30 at correctional facility), one death
  • Williamson County: 21, one death
  • Massac County: 17
  • Jackson County: 14
  • Saline County: 10, one death
  • Franklin County: 10
  • White and Union counties: nine each
  • Johnson County: eight
  • Perry County: six
  • Pulaski County: four
  • Hamilton County: three
  • Hardin County: two, one death
  • Gallatin, Pope and Alexander counties: one each

The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from Jan. 20–26 is 5.6%.

A total of 1,253,300 doses of vaccine have been delivered to providers statewide, including Chicago. Additionally, approximately 537,050 doses total have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities, bringing the total Illinois doses to 1,790,350. IDPH is currently reporting a total of 773,623 vaccines administered, including 117,983 for long-term care facilities. A total of 53,628 doses were administered Tuesday.
