SPRINGFIELD – Ameren Illinois recently extended the disconnection moratorium to all residential customers through March 31, 2021. Now the company is warning of those attempting to scam others with a disconnect threat if they do not make a payment.
Arleen Williams, supervisor with Ameren, said there are several factors to look for in scams.
The company has urged customers experiencing financial challenges due to COVID-19 to take steps to save energy, and continue to pay whatever possible to avoid falling behind on energy bills.
