Mt. Vernon Woman Killed in Head-On Collision on Route 161

MT. VERNON – A Mt. Vernon woman was killed in a head-on, two vehicle collision Tuesday morning on Illinois Route 161 east of Centralia near County Road 600 East.

According to Illinois State Police, 74-year-old Carolyn Marlow of Mt. Vernon was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her husband, 79-year-old Logan Marlow. Marlow’s car was hit by 56-year-old John Hermeling of Centrarlia after he lost control and crossed over the centerline.

ISP said Logan Marlow was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hermeling was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and cited for improper lane usage.
