Pittsburg Man Arrested After Shooting at Family Members

PITTSBURG – A Pittsburg man is facing multiple charges after the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired Monday night on Fowler School Road.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, when deputies arrived around 6:10 p.m., it was determined that 46-year-old Billy Joe Williams had been in a domestic altercation with family members, where he obtained a rifle from the home and began shooting at family members.

Williams also shot several rounds into vehicles and assorted buildings on the property. Upon law enforcement arrival, Williams reentered into his home and refused to exit.

After several hours of negotiations, Williams was placed into custody without further incident. He was treated at a local hospital and was then transported to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office on charges of unlawful use of weapons by a felon, domestic battery, aggravated discharge of a firearm and reckless conduct. Williams is being held in the Williamson County Jail pending a court appearance.

The Williamson County Special Response Team responded to the home assisted by the Illinois State Police, Marion Police and Illinois Secretary of State Police Bomb Squad along with Crisis Negotiators from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Marion Police Department.
