POPE COUNTY – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) said Tuesday bridge repairs will begin, weather permitting, over various creeks on Illinois 147 spanning from the Pope County line to about two-and-a-half miles west of Simpson, requiring lane closures starting at 7 a.m.
The Max Creek, Cedar Creek and Bay Creek bridges will each be affected. The width restrictions at Max Creek and Cedar Creek will be 10’6″, while Bay Creek’s will be 9’2″.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by signals at each bridge. Repairs are expected to be finished by December 1.
IDOT advised motorists to be aware of the width restrictions, reduce speed, be alert to equipment and workers and use extreme caution while traveling through all work zones. To avoid delays, motorists should seek another route. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone as quickly as possible.
