IDPH Reports Highest COVID-19 Related Deaths Since Late June

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Tuesday announced 1,492 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 39 additional confirmed deaths, the highest number since late June.

Local case breakdown:

  • Jackson and Williamson counties: 20, one additional death each
  • Union County: seven
  • Pulaski County: five
  • Franklin County: three
  • Saline and White counties: two each
  • Gallatin, Hardin and Jefferson counties: one each
  • Perry County: two additional deaths

The rolling seven-day test positivity average has dipped down to 6.9% in Region 5, which covers most of southern Illinois. Region 4, which includes Randolph County, enacted further mitigation efforts, including banning indoor dining as of Wednesday as the St. Louis area continues to struggle with a high number of cases.
