SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The United Way of South Central Illinois (UWSCI) was honored during the month of August with the Southern Illinois Hometown Hero award from Congressman Mike Bost. The nonprofit organization received the award in part for the nearly 684,000 pounds of produce and dairy given away since May 28th through the Farmers to Family program.
Executive Director Nat Wellen said they’re honored to be mentioned alongside other heroes of the pandemic.
Wellen added UWSCI has partnered with Cusumano & Sons Inc. again, but this week to provide disinfectant wipes to schools in the community. UWSCI will also provide boxes of food at hospitals in Washington County, Salem, Fairfield, McLeansboro, Mt. Carmel, and Franklin County.
