IHSA Approves Modified Sports Schedules, Pushing Many Back

BLOOMINGTON – The IHSA Board of Directors Wednesday approved a modified schedule moving multiple sports back in the 2020-2021 school year. State series tournament decisions will be made on a sport-by-sport basis and competition must follow the guidelines set out by Governor J.B. Pritzker at his COVID-19 briefing.

When asked why sports like baseball and softball couldn’t be moved to the fall, IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson SAID the board was trying to not overlap sports that don’t normally overlap in-season.

Boys and girls golf, girls tennis, boys and girls cross country, and girls swimming and diving are the only IHSA sports that will proceed as planned this fall. All winter sports will currently proceed as planned during the winter season.

Football, boys soccer, and girls volleyball will move to the spring season with girls badminton, boys gymnastics, and boys and girls water polo.

A new summer season will include many delayed spring sports, including baseball, softball, boys and girls track and field, girls soccer, boys volleyball, boys and girls lacrosse, and boys tennis.
