Carbondale Woman Killed by Train While Crossing Tracks

CARBONDALE – A Carbondale woman was killed after being struck by a train Monday afternoon in Carbondale.

Holly Stanley, 40 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a northbound Canadian National train unable to stop in time to avoid the accident.

According to Carbondale Police, officer responded to the area south of the College St. railroad track in the 600 block of South Illinois Ave. around 12:20 p.m. regarding the incident, as witnesses reported a white female, later identified as Stanley, walking across the railroad tracks.

The Grand Ave. and College St. crossings were temporarily closed during the investigation, reopening shortly after 3 Monday afternoon.
