CARTERVILLE – One person is recovering following a two-vehicle injury crash in Williamson County Wednesday afternoon.
According to Illinois State Police, the accident happened just before 2 p.m. on Illinois 13 at Shawnee Trail Road in Carterville.
A preliminary investigation indicates a SUV, driven by 57-year-old Mark Lies of De Soto was going east and a car, driven by 24-year-old Taylor Woods of Decatur, was going west on Illinois 13 both approaching Shawnee Trail Rd. when Lies said he was texting on his phone and did not see Woods when Lies began turning left onto Shawnee Trail Rd. Woods was not able to stop in time and struck Lies’ SUV in the side.
An ambulance took Woods to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Lies and a passenger in Woods’ car, 24-year-old Noah Pittenger of Decatur, were not injured.
The roadway was closed for an hour during the crash investigation.
Lies was charged with driving under the influence, failure to yield the right of way, illegal use of an electronic communication device and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
