DE SOTO – A three-vehicle crash led to multiple injuries in Jackson County Monday.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and first responders responded to the crash on Illinois 149 three miles east of De Soto around 10:45 a.m.
After arriving, it was discovered that the two drivers of the vehicles were trapped within their vehicles and had to be extricated.
Officials say Randall Newline of Herrin was driving his car east on Illinois 149 east of De Soto when for an unknown reason, he crossed over into the westbound lane and struck a pickup truck traveling west driven by Eric Moorman of Louisville, IL. The collision forced the pickup off the roadway. After the initial collision, Newline’s car immediately struck a minivan head-on driven by Damon Taylor of Hurst.
Both Taylor and Newlin had to be extracted from their vehicles and were flown to area hospitals for their injuries. Taylor’s passenger and Moorman were both transported by ambulance to area hospitals.
Officials say Newline will be cited for improper lane usage. Currently, impairment is not suspected to be the cause of the accident.
Illinois 149 between DeSoto and Hurst was shut down for 90 minutes as a result of the crash.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Jackson County Ambulance Service, DeSoto Township Fire Department and Arch Flight Rescue.
