Illinois Coronavirus by the Numbers: Wednesday, April 8 Update

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Wednesday reported it’s highest number of deaths related to COVID-19 at a daily briefing, and it’s highest amount of new confirmed cases in a 24-hour span.

Health officials during the briefing with Gov. J.B. Pritzker revealed 1,529 new cases and 82 additional deaths, raising the state’s total cases to 15,078 and death toll to 462.

The reported deaths included a Texas man who tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Jefferson County. He was in a Jefferson County hospital until his passing Wednesday afternoon, according to the Jefferson County Health Department.

New cases were announced elsewhere from health departments in the region. Here are the latest:

Jackson County (22 total)

  • Male in his eighties, acquired locally, isolated and doing fair.

Franklin-Williamson Bi-County (2 F, 9 W)

  • Female in her thirties from Williamson County, likely acquired through community, isolated at home.
