IL Coronavirus Update: Cases Closer to 8K Total, Deaths Over 150

CHICAGO – The death toll in Illinois has reached 157 due to COVID-19, and cases of the novel Corona virus now total 7.695, according to Thursday’s press biefing with Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

With an additional 16 deaths and 715 new cases announced Thursday, Pritzker said the state is receiving 15 machines to allow for rapid testing of the virus, with results coming back in around 15 minutes. Not specifying an area, the governor said the first shipment of machine will go to “various places.”

Pritzker also announced a new initiative, “All in Illinois,” in hopes of uniting residents across the state.

“I’ve taken virtually every action available to me to protect our residents and slow the spread, and now, our strongest weapon against COVID-19 is you,” he said. “For everyone in Illinois, we as individuals must commit to stay home, stay safe and practice social distancing to stay healthy. I’m asking you to join us and be all in for Illinois.”
