Carbondale Man Sentenced to Four Years for Plaza Records Theft

JACKSON CO. – A Carbondale man has been sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections for theft.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael Carr announced Monday 38-year-old Jeffery W. Barton received a four-year sentenced in IDOC followed by a one year period of mandatory supervised release.

Carr said Barton entered a plea of guilty last Tuesday to theft, a Class 3 felony offense, in Jackson County Court.

On March 9, employees of Plaza Records in Carbondale called the Carbondale Police Department after a guitar and guitar amplifier belonging to one of the employees was stolen from the back room of the business. Police found the stolen property in Barton’s possession at a home in Carbondale that same day.

The investigation revealed Barton visited Plaza Records March 9, walked into the back room and took the property.

Barton’s case was investigated by the Carbondale Police Department.
