Fatal Crash That Killed Two Thurs. Under Investigation

WILLIAMSON CO. – The names of two people killed in a fatal traffic accident Thursday afternoon in Williamson County have been released.

According to the Williamson County Coroner’s Office, 82-year-old Delbert Allen of Carterville and 32-year-old Rachel Sanders of Royalton were pronounced dead at the scene.

Allen was driving her car east on Herrin Rd. at Cundiff Cemetery Rd. when she crossed the center line and struck the vehicle Sanders was driving west head-on. Sanders’ vehicle was hit again by a vehicle traveling behind it, resulting in a fire.

According to WSIL-TV, autopsies were scheduled for Friday.

The crash remains under investigation by the Williamson County Coroner’s Office, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police Crash Reconstructionists.

A fatal traffic crash which left two dead Thursday afternoon is under investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Illinois State Police.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, the crash was on Herrin Rd. at Cundiff Cemetery Rd. Their victims’ names have not been released.

The Illinois State Police are conducting the Crash Reconstruction Investigation. First Responders from Carterville and Crainville assisted with the call.

Due to the early nature of the investigation, no further information has been released.
