Hayley Williams can’t be cocooned any longer. She released the her second solo single Thursday in the form of “Leave It Alone,” coupled with a video showing Williams exiting a cocoon and finding freedom in the outside world.
“It really sucks that you do have to dig through the dirtiest s*** to find like, the diamonds,” Williams told Zane Lowe on Beats 1 Radio regarding the new song. “Like, you’ve got to burn all of it off.”
She continued by noting personal and family struggles of late playing into the lyrics, such as the divorce from ex-husband Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory, and her grandmother suffering a fall, which left her with head trauma.
“It was so tough, and felt like there was a lot of death at the time,” Williams said. “And I just thought like, what is the point of loving people? Like why? Even in the best case scenario, I fall in love, we have a life together and then we lose one or the other. It’s terrifying. The more you love, the more you stand to lose…I struggle with it all the time.”
Her debut solo album, Petals for Armor, releases May 8.
