SPRINGFIELD – As lawmakers return to work at the capitol, another scandal has emerged regarding a connected lobbyist for political favors. A July 2012 email shows a once powerful lobbyist, Mike McClain, emailed former Governor Pat Quinn’s administration seeking a favor for a state employee.
The email, sent to two of the former governor’s top aides, sought leniency for a corrections worker facing disciplinary action. McClain urged restraint in the case because the worker “kept his mouth shut about ghost workers and a rape in Champaign”.
Republican State Representative Terri Bryant said indictments will be forthcoming for all those involved in the scandal.
Quinn’s staffers never replied to the email, but the workers disciplinary case was postponed. McClain is currently under federal investigation, and was a close confidant of Speaker of the House Mike Madigan.
