After playing only 30 shows throughout the 2010s, The Strokes lit up the new decade by debuting a new song, “Ode to the Mets,” at a New Year’s Eve show in Brooklyn and announcing a new album.
Vocalist Julian Casablancas made the announcement after fans chanted for a song to be played from 2011s Angles album, choosing not to play any material from the last decade.
“What about a new song?” the singer asked in a video shared to YouTube. “Yeah, we’ve got a new album coming out soon! Surprise! 2020, here we come. The 2010s, whatever the f*** they’re called, we took ‘em off. And now we’ve been unfrozen and we’re back.”
A new album, the sixth for the band, would be their first since 2013’s Comedown Machine.
