CARBONDALE – One person is dead following a report of a home invasion just before 7 p.m. Wednesday south of Carbondale.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report where two men forced their way inside a home and demanded money from the residents. A struggle reportedly ensued over a firearm and shots were fired before the suspects fled from the home.
Then around 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, Carbondale police received a call from Memorial Hospital of Carbondale regarding a male who arrived with a life-threatening injury. Police responded and located at 17-year-old male victim who was later pronounced dead from a suspected gunshot wound.
Preliminary information suggests the two calls are connected. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
The sheriff’s office, Carbondale Police, the Jackson County Coroner’s Office and the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office have assisted with the case.
