Marion City Council to Name New Fire Chief at Monday’s Meeting

The Marion City Council is expected to name the city’s next fire chief at Monday night’s meeting.

According to the meeting’s agenda, the council will discuss and possibly hire Tim Barnett as Chief Designate effective immediately. He would assume the role as fire chief upon Chief Jerry Odum’s retirement at the end of next month.

The council is also expected to discuss and possibly approve the Police and Fire Merit Board’s recommendations to promote Leo Whitehead to Captain and Chad Schmid to Lieutenant, effective at the end of December, plus hire Hunter Odum and Blake Osborne as probationary firefighters pending a background check and physical.

Monday’s meeting is open to the public at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
