Carbondale Fire Department Raises Money to Help Local Cancer Patients

For the fifth year, the Carbondale Fire Department and Carbondale Professional Firefighters Local 1961 donated money to help cancer patients in need of financial assistance.

Firefighters recently presented a $1,030 check to the SIH Foundation. The money will be added to the Cancer Care Patient Support Fund, helping local patients receive care at the SIH Cancer Institute.

Jill Gobert, director of the SIH Foundation, said many patients have large fuel costs and between 30-40 chemo appointments, with costs adding up if they travel for a couple hours to and from appointments.
