MARION – A death investigation is underway in Marion after a dead body was found lying in a wooded area on Longstreet Road east of Illinois 37 early Monday morning.
According to a press release from the Marion Police Department, Marion Police officers and Illinois State Police (ISP) responded to a disturbance call at a local hotel that is not being named at this time. During the investigation, two persons of interest fled the scene in a vehicle which Marion Police attempted to catch. Before Marion Police could attempt to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, the fleeing vehicle lost control and crashed on Longstreet Rd., east of Illinois 37. The occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot into a wooded area.
Marion Police with the Herrin Police Department used a K-9 to track through the woods, which led officers to the body of a dead white man lying in the woods.
The investigation into the deceased body is being handled by ISP. A name will not be released until family members are notified.
