West Frankfort Gets Court Order to Inspect Safety of Fire Damaged Building

The City of West Frankfort is taking action against a man who has prevented an inspection of a building he owns to check for occupancy safety.

According to a press release on the City of West Frankfort’s Facebook page, the city has sought an inspection of the building owned by Edward “Captain” Prak at 710 E. Main Street for several months since a significant fire took place in the building September 2018. An inspection is required pursuant to city ordinance to determine the safety of the building.

The city said Prak has previously prevented inspection of the building. He was then ordered to submit the building for inspection with notice was given that an inspection would happen Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. Inspectors were not permitted to enter upon arrival.

A court order has been entered, stating the inspection will occur Dec. 2 at noon. The results from the inspection will be presented at a status hearing Dec. 3.
