Tuesday night’s Carbondale City Council board meeting resulted in the approval of recreational marijuana sales in the city by a vote of six to one.
The ordinance begins Oct. 1, 2020, which includes rights to possess marijuana and build dispensaries within city limits.
A two-percent sales tax was also approved by the council, and businesses selling marijuana will pay a Municipal Cannabis Retailers’ Occupation Tax, as a result of the Title Seven amendment by adding Chapter Fourteen.
Medical marijuana sales are not included with the sales tax collection by the city.
