Yesterday, Sharon Van Etten via Twitter announced an Amazon Music short documentary detailing her life as an artist in New York City. The documentary, Departure, is due Sept. 26.
The clip shared by Van Etten shows her in the midst of a recording session, talking about her time in New York, transitioning into discussing her early career and playing in front of an audience for the first time.
“I had finally saved up enough money to just go for it,” she says of her beginnings in the clip. “I didn’t know why, I wasn’t that good. I liked what I did and it made me feel better. I had no idea what I was doing.”
The documentary will also include a worked version of Van Etten’s “Seventeen,” this time featuring Norah Jones.
